A cop with a history of alcoholism and drug use (Douglas) is assigned a case involving a nightclub owner murdered in his bed. His prime suspect is Catherine Tramell (Stone), a manipulative novelist who had been sleeping with the victim and who described a similar murder in one of her books. But is Catherine actually the killer? Everyone seems to have a motive in this steamy, controversial thriller directed by Paul Verhoeven (“Total Recall”).
